Electroplating Engineers of Japan Develops Innovative Direct Patterning Plating Technology that Opens the Potential of New-Generation Electronics

Tanaka Holdings announced Electroplating Engineers of Japan used surface treatment chemicals (photosensitive primer used with a colloid catalyst) that it developed to create a new direct patterning plating technology. This technology does not require a vacuum environment or photoresist, and can directly form low-resistance fine wires on a variety of materials using a low-temperature process that can be performed at or below 100Ž.

The new technology is a plating technique whereby a photosensitive primer is applied to various substrates such as PET film or glass and exposed to light; after the substrate is immersed in a colloid catalyst solution that includes a gold nanoparticle catalyst. The catalyst is immersed in a electroless plating solutionwith whatever metal that has been selected for the specific application to form fine electronic circuitry patterns made of various metals with a wire width of 5 ƒÊm .

In addition, a groundbreaking method of automatic adsorption of the gold nanoparticle catalyst by the photosensitive primer makes it possible to directly form the wires without using a photoresist. The new technology forms wires using a plating method that does not require vacuum equipment, facilitating the expansion to large batch processing.

SCREEN Establishes New Company and Takes Over Business Operations for Assembly Processing Equipment Used in Display Manufacturing

SCREEN Holdings announced to take over all business operations currently handled by FUK (Nara, Japan) and establish a subsidiary to manage these operations. The subsidiary is wholly owned by SCREEN Finetech Solutions (SCREEN FT).

In early 2016, SCREEN FT signed a comprehensive partnership agreement with FUK, a highly regarded manufacturer of assembly processing equipment such as the abrasive cleaning and cover glass bonding systems used in display production. While this partnership led to significant progress in the companiesfefforts to provide a wide range of equipment solutions to the flexible display market, both have continued to look for ways to more effectively combine their core competencies and create even greater synergy.

After extensive discussions between the partners, SCREEN Holdings has established a wholly owned subsidiary under SCREEN FT that will take over all of FUKfs business activities, including those related to the integration of production equipment for flexible devices. The subsidiary is scheduled to begin operation on July 3 and will focus on the provision of new solutions designed to meet the diverse needs of the rapidly expanding flexible display market, both now and in the future. The new company is expected to help drive the development and expansion of SCREEN FT group business.

Patent Reexamination Board of the SIPO Dismisses Intematix Suzhou Lighting's Claim Against Red Phosphor Patent Owned by Mitsubishi Chemical and NIMS Board Approves Validity of Patent

Mitsubishi Chemical and National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS) announced that the Patent Reexamination Board of the State Intellectual Property Office of the P.R.C.(SIPO) has dismissed every aspect of the claim, filed on November 2, 2016, by China's Intematix Suzhou Lighting, requesting for the invalidation of the Chinese patent (No. ZL201110066517.7) for red phosphor, a material used extensively in light-emitting diodes (LEDs), owned by MCC and NIMS. The board approved the validity of the patent, and MCC and NIMS received the written decision effective May 10.

The patent is one of the basic patents covering nitride-type red phosphor known as CASN, SCASN, or 1113 phosphor, and LEDs, lighting devices, backlighting for LCD panels, etc., that use the phosphor. CASN and SCASN, because of their high brightness and reliability, are the red phosphors used most extensively in LEDs. Red phosphor manufactured and sold by MCC has earned high regard among LED manufacturers.
